MISSION STATEMENT
The Hackney Horse Hub has been
developed to serve as a source of information about the Hackney Horse and Hackney
Pony. If you have traveled to this page, you have come with curiosity and/or a love
of these wonderful animals. Thank you for joining us.
Please consider the intent of this site as a place to browse around, study, contribute to, argue with (politely), and just enjoy. Suggestions are always welcome, as one of the goals here is to keep the pages dynamic, growing and evolving.
The Hackney has such a noble history, much of which has been forgotten by the horse world in general and often within the world of the Hackney. It has become apparent in the United States that the Hackney Horse has been overshadowed by its remarkable first cousin, the Hackney Pony. This site's content will help to balance this by offering information which tell the story of the Hackney by words and images committed to paper 100 to nearly 200 years ago, as well as from more current resources.
RENAISSANCE OF THE
HACKNEY HORSE
The Hackney Horse is experiencing a
Renaissance, fueled by an embracing of the animal as a
breed
of horse, not
just a type of show driving horse. Most of the newer owners and breeders of the
Hackney Horse have come to this breed from other horse breeds and experiences, thus
bringing a diversity of interests and ideas.
However, the overarching impression of these Hackney Horse fans is of a horseperson who is very passionate about their breed. We hold strong admiration for the Hackney's steadfast and humorous nature, powerful and elegant structure, unending endurance and remarkable movement.
